BBC Click showed a new project called ‘Hyperloop’ today (17.1.2016) in which the founders of Tesla are involved. They are already building a test version of ‘Hyperloop’ in the U.S. desert. It is a network of large tubes in stilts which will hold high speed pods that could travel at speeds of up to 700 miles per hour from one location to a specific destination! There are several rocket scientists working on the project which uses robotic welding to compliment the other technologies.
Of course there are many issues to be resolved and it could be decades before ‘Hyperloop’ becomes a reality such as how will they be slowed down and the gaps between different ‘launches’. However with spacecraft people working on the project and backing of $35m already available, the project is already live. Apparently the concept should be thought of rather like a horizontal elevator where you push the button and in a flash you are on the 22nd floor of a tower block. This seems like a very interesting project but of course it will need billions to develop and is, in reality, probably decades away. Nevertheless it is, yet again, a wonderful vision of what the future may hold.
