Real Change in the Financial World - Is it Possible?
Of course it is possible if senior financiers and governments have the will and can come together. We must keep up the momentum for change following the financial crisis. Otherwise the recent resurgence of largely unchanged financial institutions, particularly in the US, will continue.
We believe the human need to save the world from our destruction and complacency can be a driving force from the public to clean up the ‘club’ between bankers and government ministers. The return of banking to a service industry which is there to help the public through difficult times and boost business for good should be inevitable. Join the exciting movement to find our choices and alternatives then perhaps we can show our leaders the way forward!

Adventures in Alternative Finance: Can We Rewire Finance from the Ground Up?

CELL, etika and attac are happy to host Brett Scott, a Fellow at the Finance Innovation Lab, campaigner, prolific writer and former broker this coming November. He is leading a workshop on adventures in alternative finance:
We often imagine finance as a realm of daunting skyscrapers, complex mathematical models and men with suits, but the foundations of the financial sector are much more intuitive and basic, rooted in cultural and political systems. In this workshop we will explore these foundations from the ground up.
In the workshop, we will cover money, financial instruments and the financial institutions that create them, and map out the major problems created by the financial sector.
This will allow us to explore how to rewire the sector to achieve social and ecological justice. We will play with, and develop, creative ideas on alternative money, alternative financial instruments and alternative financial institutions. Can we build our own investment bank? Come along and try!
